Ron Jon Surf Shop opens Thursday in Ocean City

Just in time for summer, Ron Jon Surf Shop is opening Thursday in Ocean City, two blocks from the beach.

The 11th company-owned Ron Jon, the first in Maryland, will occupy 6,500 square feet in the 67th Street Town Center. UPDATE: The new shopping center is also home to The Kite Loft and Dolle's Candyland, with more shops and eateries coming, among them Alexis Jade Boutique & Accessories, Atlantic Gold Jewelry, Original Fish & Chips, Sweet Frog Premium Yogurt and Longboard Cafe.

The surf shop has locations throughout Florida and elsewhere on the East Coast, including Myrtle Beach and the original spot in Ship Bottom, N.J.

The store’s first 1,000 customers will get reusable Ron Jon shopping bags. Store opening activities for the coming weekend will include musical entertainment, store giveaways and face painting.

The retailer, based in Cocoa Beach, Fla., said it chose the popular summer destination of Ocean City because it has "great surf," and visitors know the brand.
