The PriceRite discount supermarket planned for the Mount Clare Junction shopping plaza in West Baltimore will open Wednesday, the chain said today.
The Sun's Steve Kilar reported in October that PriceRite had signed a lease to open in a 39,000-square-foot anchor spot in the Pigtown center, at the corner of West Pratt and South Carey streets.
Other tenants are Family Dollar, Downtown Locker Room and Rent-A-Center.
PriceRite, a wholly owned subsidiary of Elizabeth, N.J.,-based Wakefern Food Corp., said the location is the first in the city. The grocer has one other location in the Baltimore area, which opened last year off Security Boulevard in Woodlawn, and a store that opened last month in District Heights.
The Pigtown store will employ 130 full- and part-time workers.
The grocer says it offers warehouse club shopping without membership fees and savings of up to 50 percent off prices at traditional supermarkets. To keep costs low, PriceRite limits its advertising, does not publish a weekly circular and encourages shoppers to use their own bags.
The Baltimore store will offer a fresh seafood department as well as packaged meats, baked goods, a mix of private label and national brands and dairy and frozen foods.
