The Baltimore Michaels promises a new, open store design with wider aisles and a brighter atmosphere and some new products.

The doors open at 10 a.m. The first 100 customers will get free gift cards worth more than $1,000, with prizes valued up to $250 to be given away hourly throughout the opening day.

"Our new store features thousands of products that will inspire every crafter at any level from beginner to expert, plus classes for our customers to learn new skills in painting, cake decorating, knitting, scrapbooking and more," Brian Winiecki, store manager, said in the announcement.

Departments include home decor and floral, scrapbooking and paper crafts, jewelry, kids, art supplies and custom framing.

The more than 21,000-square-foot store will employ more than 60 workers and is hiring. The Irving, Texas-based chain operates more than 1,090 stores in 49 states and Canada.
