IKEA is sending a team of five home furnishing experts on the road to help homeowners tackle design challenges, with a stop in the Baltimore/Washington area planned for June.
But Baltimore-area homeowners only have until Friday to apply for a home makeover. Consumers are asked to submit a video about how IKEA can help improve their life at home by May 2.
UPDATE: (An IKEA spokeswoman said late Tuesday that the video submission deadline for Baltimore was moved up to April 29 -- so videos are no longer being accepted.)
The design experts are leaving their regular jobs at IKEA stores for a year to travel to at least five cities and take on two makeovers at each stop. They'll evaluate a specific challenge, develop a plan and work with homeowners to find solutions, using IKEA products, of course.
The Home Tour Squad will document the journey with before and after footage of the projects through IKEA's Home Tour YouTube Channel and via live updates via Twitter (@DesignbyIKEA) and Instagram(@IKEAUSA) at hashtag #IKEAHomeTour.
The squad will appear at the Safeway National Capital BBQ Battle on June 21 and June 22 to offer personalized design advice. Other stops include Atlanta, Charlotte, Philadelphia, New York City and other markets yet to be announced.
"We believe that people can do simple things that make a big difference to make life at home better," said Julie Foor, IKEA Home Tour project manager. "With the tour, we’re tackling home challenges that are universal, so there are smart ideas and inspirational tips from the makeovers that can be helpful for anyone."
