Tonight is Fashion's Night Out, and not only in New York City.
Baltimore area shopping destinations are getting in on the fashion world's "shopping extravaganza," a single night that started in New York in 2009 to highlight fashion, restore consumer confidence and give retailers a boost during the recession.
Last year, 18 countries participated and 4,500 events were held in the U.S. alone, designer appearances, celebrity guests, fashion shows and musical performances, according to Weinberg Harris & Associates, which represents Towson Town Center.
Shoppers at the Towson mall from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. tonight can expect special offers, giveaways and demos from retailers.
"Fashion's Night Out gives Towson Town Center a chance to pamper our shoppers, celebrate fashion and have fun acknowledging this unparalleled global event," Annie Wildasin, the mall's senior marketing manager, said in a statement. She promises shoppers "an electric, unforgettable experience."
Customers can get made up with red lips and smoky eyes in the Beauty Lounge, compete for The Most Stylish and a $500 mall gift card by registering at 6 p.m. to appear in a runway show or watch a fall trends fashion show at 8 p.m. The mall will give shoppers who spend $75 or more a three-piece nail polish set.
Harbor East, the waterfront neighborhood just east of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, promises shoppers special events and promotions as well. Shops will feature product launches, trunk shows, gifts with purchases and design contests, while a DJ will provide street entertainment. Plus, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres from Harbor East restaurants will be served.
Among the participating retailers are the newest national brands, J. Crew and Anthropologie, as well as Amaryllis Handcrafted Jewelry, Handbags in the City, lululemon athletica, Sassanova, South Moon Under, Urban Chic and White House/Black Markets.
Wit & Wisdom A Tavern by Michael Mina, at the Four Seasons hotel, will give any shopper with a same-day receipt from participating merchants a specially priced glass of champagne. Parking is free with a same-day purchase of $50 or more from participating merchants in Towne Park garages on Aliceanna Street and International Drive.
In the U.S., Fashion's Night Out is put together by American Vogue, the Council of Fashion designers of America, NYC & Co. and the city of New York.
