Discount grocer ALDI will open its planned Aberdeen store Friday and offer preview tours today.
The opening of the store at 746 South Philadelphia Blvd. follows store openings in Towson in November and Catonsville in February.
The retailer runs more than 1,200 stores in 32 states and is known for selling limited assortments and exclusive brands. The chain says it offers 1,400 items under its own brand at savings of up to 50 percent off national brands. The stores save on overhead costs by offering a cart-rental system that refunds shoppers quarters once carts are returned and using small store footprints and open carton displays.
The grand opening preview will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, with shoppers invited to tour the store, try ALDI brands and enter a contest to win store gift certificates. The store will officially open for business Friday.
Hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.
The chain has been adding 50 to 80 new stores a year and has been expanding in the Baltimore area. Besides the newest stores, it also has locations in Dundalk, Randallstown, Essex, Middle River and Baltimore City.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
