Men's apparel retailer Destination XL opened a new store in Towson today, catering to men who wear extra large sizes.

The store in Yorkridge Center, at 815 Goucher Boulevard, will sell more than 100 brands in sizes XL and up, including private label and designer names such as Lacoste, Michael Kors, DKNY Jeans, Lucky Brand Jeans and Robert Graham.

The retailer says there's plenty of demand. Half the men in the U.S. have a waist size of 40 inches or greater, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

"There are currently few options in Towson for these men to purchase fashionable clothing that fits, and often they are relegated to shopping the end of the rack at the major department stores," the retailer’s announcement says.

At DXL, customers will find sizes starting at XL, tall sizes, waist sizes from 40 inches and up and shoe sizes from 10 to 16 in widths up to 4E. In-store tailoring is available.

Destination XL Group Inc.'s CEO, David Levin, calls the concept "an emerging and innovative retail offering that is attuned to our customers’ needs."

DXL has 55 stores in 26 states. The Canton, Mass.-based company, a part of the Casual Male Retail Group, is making a transition from the Casual Male XL to the Destination XL brand. Plans call for the Destination XL Group to open more than 200 stores over the next few years.
