Baltimore will kick off its annual "Miracle on Main Streets" holiday shopping campaign Thursday in an effort to encourage residents to shop in the city's nine Main Street neighborhoods.
The coordinated promotion among the neighborhoods features special events, free parking and street decorations to promote the city's small retailers and other independent businesses.
The kickoff will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with an appearance by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake at 7 p.m., at the Mobtown Ballroom on Washington Boulevard in Pigtown. The event will feature food and wine samples from Pigtown merchants and entertainment by the Mobtown Ballroom's house band.
Pigtown has a Main Streets designation, along with Belair-Edison, East Monument Street, Federal Hill, Fell’s Point, Hamilton-Lauraville, Highlandtown, Pennsylvania Avenue and Waverly.
