The on-demand town car service Uber has a new offer for Baltimore customers this weekend: boat trips across the Inner Harbor.

The company is partnering with Baltimore Water Taxi to offer boat connections between 11 points — including popular destinations in some of Baltimore's trendiest neighborhoods — between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The company, which offers hirable sedans that customers can order using a phone app, said it "got to thinking — why go around, when the most efficient route between two points is a straight line?"

Available boats will appear on customers' phones, just as the sedans do, the company said. Rides will cost $10 per person, but there will be a $50 minimum.

The company, which has operated in Baltimore since January, is currently promoting a new "fare split" feature for its sedans, which lets friends split the cost of a ride.

The boats will also have a maximum of 10 riders per trip.

"Remember that it'll be busy with nautically-minded people like you, so please be patient!" the company wrote on its website. "If at first you don't see a boat, wait a few minutes—then jump aboard."

The company gave no indication the special offer would be repeated after this weekend.

"It's more of a fun, end of summer, doing something creative thing that we can really only do in places like Baltimore, where we have a harbor," said Melanie Curtin, community manager for Uber Baltimore.

The company has offered similar trips in Sydney and Amsterdam, she said.
