STX signs endorsement with Boston Cannons lacrosse player

STX LLC, the Baltimore-based maker of equipment for lacrosse and other sports, has signed a two-year endorsement deal with Major League Lacrosse star Will Manny, the company said Monday.

Manny, an attackman for the Boston Cannons, will represent STX's Surgeon line in marketing and advertising campaigns. The athlete will use STX equipment during games and appear as an STX representative at camps, clinics, tournaments and in-store events, the company said.

"STX had a large impact on the growth of lacrosse from the youth to professional levels, and I am beyond excited about joining and representing this brand," Manny said in a statement. "It is a huge game changer for MLL players, including myself, to now play with STX equipment during pro games."

The company announced deals earlier this year to supply equipment to all Major League Lacrosse teams for one year and to provide custom gear to Team USA for the FIL World Lacrosse Championships this month. The brand also was the official equipment supplier of the NCAA men's and women's lacrosse championships in May.

STX says its Surgeon sticks are "designed for the player who strives for precision in his game." Manny, who ranks among the top five in the league for points, goals and assists, is a perfect fit to help showcase the line, said Greg Tate, STX men's marketing manager.

"We're excited to welcome Will to the STX family and add one of the most precise attackmen in the game," Tate said in a statement. "Since his first season in the league, Will has made an immediate impact for the Cannons and continues to do so this season."

STX relies on lacrosse for 90 percent of its sales, but it also makes women's field hockey sticks and a line of golf putters and has been expanding into ice hockey and men's field hockey sticks.
