A new arrangement between Rocky Gap Casino Resort and a national comedy club chain promises to start bringing "nationally-recognized comedians" to Western Maryland every other week.
The casino announced Wednesday that it will be home to the newest Bonkerz Comedy Club, which was established in 1984 and has 20 locations nationwide.
The comedy chain has "a great reputation for booking top-level talent that has made an impression with national television audiences including Larry The Cable Guy, Carrot Top, Darrell Hammond, and Billy Gardell," said Scott Just, Rocky Gap's general manager, in a statement. "We are thrilled to be home to its newest location and look forward to entertaining both locals and tourists alike."
Starting with a "soft-opening" on Jan. 23 featuring Carmen Vallone, there will be a comedy show every other Thursday. The new club will be located in the casino's Allegheny Event Center, the casino said.
Each 21-and-over show will seat about 250 people and cost $15 per ticket, with one headliner and one opening act, the casino said.
The "grand opening" of the club, on Feb. 6, will feature James Yon and Sally Brooks.
Rocky Gap opened in May as the state's fourth casino.
