The Maryland Chamber of Commerce said Tuesday that it has picked the head of a chamber in Western Maryland to succeed its retiring CEO.
Brien Poffenberger, CEO of the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce for the past decade, will step into the top spot at the state chamber June 16. Kathleen T. Snyder will retire that month after leading the organization for nearly 15 years.
Poffenberger intends to focus on the Maryland Competitiveness Coalition, an effort by business groups across the state to get more business friendly tax and regulatory policies in place as well as to increase job growth, spur entrepreneurial activities and improve workforce education.
Poffenberger, an early participant in that coalition, is a Leadership Maryland class of 2000 graduate. He lives in Sharpsburg and expects to relocate to the Annapolis area.
