Gambling is picking up as Maryland's two casinos reported $16.3 million in slots revenue last month, the largest combined total since the two facilities have been in business.

The Maryland Lottery said Thursday that Hollywood Casino Perryville generated $12.3 million in March, while the Casino at Ocean Downs brought in a little more than $4 million.

Compared with the same period a year ago, total March revenue is up about 25 percent.

And revenue rose 8.4 percent from February, when the two casinos generated $15.1 million. The revenue reflects sales after winners are paid out.

Nearly 50 percent of the gross revenue is directed to the state's education trust fund, while the casino operator gets a 33 percent cut. The rest is split among various other entities.
