With the snip of a ceremonial cigar rather than a ribbon, Live Casino & Hotel officially opened the Orchid Gaming & Smoking Patio on Thursday.
The 8,000-square-foot space, which is open on one side, offers both table games and slots as well as a full-service bar/lounge and a large fireplace.
The casino at Arundel Mills in Hanover dubs its smoking patio as the state’s first “full-service outdoor gaming area that allows casino patrons to smoke.”
Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, Rocky Gap Casino Resort and Hollywood Casino Perryville already have smaller outdoor smoking balconies and areas with slots machines.
Live’s larger space offers 12 live action table games, including Blackjack, Baccarat and Roulette, along with 28 electronic table game seats and more than 150 slot machines. The Orchid patio also features a selection of cigars.
“Live! is committed to continuous improvement and developing new and different experiences for our guests,” said Robert J. Norton, president of Cordish Global Gaming, which owns Live Casino, in a statement. “With Orchid, we have created a completely unique environment with a blend of gaming, music, design, and an upscale bar.”
Live named the patio after the orchid because of the flower’s significance in Asian culture in which it symbolizes wealth and good fortune. The casino draws customers from central Maryland’s large Asian population.
