The Carroll Independent Fuel Co. acquired Hanover-based High's of Baltimore Inc. on Thursday, the companies said.
Baltimore-based Carroll now owns the 46 High's Dairy Store convenience stores and gas stations in Maryland, which sell Shell and CITGO fuel. Carroll declined to disclose the terms of the deal.
Carroll, which has its own line of branded gasoline, distributes fuel to retail and commercial customers in the Mid-Atlantic. It also provides heating, cooling and related services. The High's purchase allows it to break into the market of company-operated stores and stations.
John Phelps, president of Carroll, said he intends to keep High's intact — including all its employees — as a subsidiary run by Brian Darnell, a High's principal. Phelps said both businesses are family-run with a "family culture" that Carroll wants to sustain.
