Giant opens new supermarket in Glen Burnie

Giant Food opened a new store Thursday in Glen Burnie to replace an aging store that was demolished on the site last year.

The newly constructed 66,500-square foot store anchors the Arundel Plaza Shopping Center at 6636 N. Ritchie Highway, actoss the street from the state Motor Vehicle Administration.

Giant had operated a store in the shopping center since 1967, but it had become outdated. It closed in August 2016 and was razed. Construction of the new store has been underway since the closing.

The store features full-service departments such as bakery, deli, meat and seafood, as well as an in-store PNC Bank, a Starbucks with seating for up to 64 people and free Wi-Fi. It also features an expanded natural and organic foods section.
