Gabe's, a chain of discount clothing stores, is planning to hire up to 125 positions Thursday and Friday for its new Glen Burnie location.
The site of a former Walmart store, the 63,200-square-foot location is set to open in April as part of the company's expansion into the mid-Atlantic region. Formerly known as Gabriel Brothers, the stores are being rebranded as "Gabe's."
The Glen Burnie store will be the first of nine new locations in the mid-Atlantic. Based in Morgantown, W.Va., Gabriel Brothers also operates a store in Abington in Harford County.
The stores — which also sell housewares and beauty products — promote themselves as having prices up to 70 percent less than department stores.
The East Park Shopping Center location has lacked a year-round tenant since Walmart moved out in 2008. Walmart moved to a location two miles away in the Quarterfield Crossing Shopping Center because the East Park lease would not allow the big box retailer to sell groceries.
The company plans to hire managers, cashiers and stock workers. The job fair runs from the 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, at the site of the Glen Burnie store, 7968 Crain Highway. Applicant are encouraged to bring two forms of identification and resume.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
