Comcast speeds up two popular Internet packages

Comcast is speeding up its two most popular Internet packages for customers in Maryland and 13 other states along the east coast.

Customers of Comcast's Blast! and Performance Pro speed tiers will get faster Internet at no additional cost. Comcast routinely upgrades download speeds, about once a year, to "stay ahead of the ever expanding number of Internet applications and connected devices in the home," the company said in a statement.

Blast! Download speeds will increase from 150 megabits per second (Mbps) to 200 Mbps. Performance Pro speeds will increase from 75 Mbps to 100 Mbps.

To take advantage of greater speeds, customers will need to restart their modems.

Older modems may need to be upgraded. Comcast plans to notify customers who may need to upgrade. Customers who lease modems from Comcast are eligible for a free upgraded modem.

Users who own their modem and need to buy a new one can find a list of suggested options here: http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/
