Toby Bozzuto and other Maryland executives join CEO diversity pledge

Toby Bozzuto, CEO of The Bozzuto Group, a Maryland residential developer, and John B. Frisch, the chairman and CEO of the Baltimore law firm Miles & Stockbridge, have joined Kevin Plank, William J. Stromberg, Freeman Hrabowksi and other exectives in signing the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion.

Nearly 300 CEOs of businesses across the country have joined the coalition pledging to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Plank of Under Armour, Stromberg of T. Rowe Price Group and Hrabowski of University of Maryland, Baltimore County, were among the first 150 top executives to join the coalition when it launched in June.

More than 80 additional CEOs, including Bozzuto and Frisch, have joined subsequently.

By committing to the coalition, Bozzuto is pledging to continue cultivating a workplace “where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected and where employees feel encouraged to discuss diversity and inclusion,” the company said in a press release.

“Bozzuto represents a wide diversity of thought, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation,” said Bozzuto, president and CEO of the development firm, in a statement. “We have come together and merged ourselves into an organization that has a common purpose, to provide extraordinary experiences to our employees, customers, clients and partners.”

In Baltimore, Greenbelt-based Bozzuto Group recently opened Anthem House and developed Union Wharf apartments in Fells Point and the Fitzgerald in Mount Royal, among other projects both in the city and its suburbs.

Companies that join the CEO Action share best practices. Miles & Stockbridge has shared its success with a two-year-old initiative to interview at least one woman, minority or LGBT lawyer for each open position.

“We work on a daily basis to elevate our diversity and inclusion efforts from initiatives to a way of life,” Frisch said. “It requires us to look at all decisions through the prism of diversity and inclusion.”

This story has been updated to include John B. Frisch of Miles & Stockbridge.
