Accuvant to expand Maryland operations, add 180 jobs

An information-security company expects to add 180 jobs in the next two years as part of an expansion in Howard County, the company said Thursday.

Denver-based Accuvant plans this spring to move its Maryland operations from Hanover in Anne Arundel County to nearby Dorsey, just over the line in Howard. The company currently employs 70 in the area.

Accuvant is getting a $300,000 conditional loan from the state — financing that won't have to be paid back if the company follows through on its hiring plans — and a $30,000 grant from Howard County for facility improvements. Accuvant's expansion will also make it eligible for state and county tax credits.

The company plans to run its federal cybersecurity arm from Dorsey — near the U.S. Cyber Command at Fort Meade — and open a new security operations center there. Though some federal contractors are scaling back as budgets tighten, those working in cybersecurity feel well-positioned.

"The new location will provide the flexibility we need to accommodate our future growth plans in the federal space," Ed Wittman, Accuvant's senior vice president of corporate development, said in a statement.
