Joe Benny, left, 63, with 43 years as a steelworker, says, "It seems like the politicians were more interested in trying to get the casinos built than the plight of the steelworkers." Second from left is Mike Perry, 59, who has 39 1/2 years as a steelworker. He said, "I thought I was secure 39 1/2 years ago (when he got a job at Sparrows Point) in expecting a pension and health care, and that's not the case now." Members of the local United Steelworkers union meet at 540 Dundalk Ave. for the first time since the news that the Sparrows Point steel mill will never reopen.
