2011 Chevrolet Volt
The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in electric vehicle with extended range that can travel 25 to 50 miles on electric power and another 310 with an on-board, gas-powered generator. The five-door sedan has a top speed of 100 mph. Priced at $41,000, it is eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit. It also can be leased for $350 per month with $2,500 down.

The Volt is an expensive car to purchase, but, because of its lower operating costs, it may make financial sense if kept long enough.
