I cannot remember the last time I fell under the spell of a series as instantly as I did AMC's "The Killing."
It premieres Sunday night, and while it might feel like "Twin Peaks" at the start, this one has genuine depth and texture. Instead of striving to be cool, this one tries and succeeds in capturing the ache and ugliness of contemporary American life.
Check out this podcast preview I did this week with WYPR-FM.
PS You will hear references to AMC and "Mad Men" in the podcast that was cut Wednesday -- before Thursday night's big AMC news about Matt Weiner and the channel agreeing to two more years of "Mad Men." Read that here at Z on TV.
Please stop back Sunday and let me know what you think. I think AMC has a winner.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post and the podcast referred to "The Killing" as a mini-series. AMC says it is a series.
