Notes on Terps 99, UNC Greensboro 56

Hey, the Terps beat the Spartans. But these Spartans were from UNC Greensboro, not Michigan State. They have yet to come within single digits of a win this season.

Did you want lineup changes? Gary Williams stood pat with his experienced guys -- the ones who have been through the ACC schedules before. The Terps open ACC play earlier in the season than a year ago -- at Comcast Center against Boston College on Sunday.

Here is Williams on Adrian Bowie and Cliff Tucker remaining starters: "They’ve been loyal four-year players. That means a lot to me. With the ACC starting on Sunday, it’s very important that they play well."

Tucker, by the way, told me that he began to feel sick during the second half of the Illinois game at Madison Square Garden ("something I ate") and had struggled to regain his edge.

"The last couple games I was playing real tentative," Tucker said.

It's hard to gauge Maryland's progress when it is playing a subpar opponent. But the team had to be happy with a season-high 24 assists (on 35 baskets). That's a sign that the ball is moving around.

A lot of you asked about Mychal Parker in recent weeks. He hadn't played much. He got 11 minutes against Greensboro and scored four points. And James Padgett had nine rebounds.

Here is Gary Williams on Parker -- "He’s got some skills, He's starting to learn the offense now. He's starting to get comfortable.'
