Woody's Rum Bar and Island Grill is open for the season

Woody's Rum Bar and Island Grill (at the corner of Thames Street and Broadway, pictured) is open for the season.

At least that's what owner Patrick Russell told me a couple days ago. The third-story wooden deck/patio lounge above Slainte in Fells Point opens at 11 a.m. daily. Web site here.

"The best place to get day drunk is now open," Russell said today. If you go there, be sure to look for the Best of the Best of the Best award I gave 'em. If you don't see it, you have my permission to raise a ruckus ...

I firmly stand behind the Best of the Best of the Best Award I gave Woody's. I honestly can't think of a better place to have a few frozen cocktails on a hot Saturday afternoon in Fells Point -- especially when there's a soft breeze blowing to help hide the stink of the harbor.

I've never had bad service there, either. Here's a question for you: Since Woody's is only partially enclosed, does that mean you can legally smoke cigarettes up there?
