Thursday: Off the field

As expected, offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden (hyperextended toe), quarterback Steve McNair (pulled groin), linebacker Ray Lewis (strained triceps) and tight end Daniel Wilcox (sprained ankle) were not present during today's portion of practice open to the media.

A few more surprising absences: cornerbacks Samari Rolle and David Pittman and free safety Ed Reed. Reed and Pittman seemed to practice with little problem yesterday, while coach Brian Billick said that Rolle sat out practice yesterday to get refreshed after Monday night's season-opening loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

So when the first-team defense took the field today, the secondary consisted of Chris McAlister and Corey Ivy at cornerback and Dawan Landry and Gerome Sapp at safety.
