A growing Baltimore County printing and marketing company is scheduled to formally open its new 40,000-square-foot headquarters in Owings Mills next week, but CEO Keith Miller already has set his sights on a new building.
Miller, who started Strategic Factory with a distressed Minuteman's Press franchise in 1999, said he hopes to break ground on another 30,000-square-foot building in the next two or three years. His company today employs about 100 people, with 21 hires since January and another eight to 10 expected by the end of 2015.
Miller said the company has grown by making Minuteman's Press a one-stop shop for its business clients, with marketing, graphic design and other services.
Strategic Factory, the umbrella company for Miller's Minuteman's Press, Graphic Tango and other firms, generated $10 million in revenue last year and expects to pull in about $12.5 million in 2015, he said.
"We fill a void in the market … between the quick printer and the commercial printer," said Miller, 42. "We've definitely diversified as much as we can."
Miller grew up in South Africa and studied to be an electrical engineer. He settled in Baltimore in 1999, after he met his future wife here while traveling.
Strategic Factory invested invested $6.5 million in the new Dolfield Boulevard headquarters, which was built by Merritt Properties, Miller said. The firm moved in December, but spent some months determining a date that would be convenient for officials for the ribbon cutting.
The expansion was supported by a $1 million loan from the Baltimore County Small Business Loan Fund and $5.5 million in Baltimore County industrial revenue bonds for construction and equipment.
The headquarters can hold about 130 people, but Miller said the roughly 8.5-acre site has room for another 30,000-square-foot building.
"You've got to be ambitious, right?" he said.
