Sometimes living in the future is awesome.
Crate & Barrel just launched its new registry app. Similar to a QR code, you hold your phone up to an item, scan it and it automatically populates in your online registry.
From this app, you can monitor the registry, too. You can track which gifts have been purchased, edit your list, and — to make it cooler — you can do all this through voice command.
As I discussed before, we're using myregistry.com and asking primarily for wine, though if this app had been invented a few months ago we would have considered going with Crate & Barrel. If you're brand new to being engaged and have yet to decide on a registry, I recommend both options. The Crate & Barrel app is cool because it's convenient, and I imagine it would be fun to stroll through the store with a coffee and your fiancé, scanning fun things and getting excited about the wedding. Rob and I are lazy hermits, so myregistry.com works best for us because it allows us to drink coffee on our sofa with our laptops propped up in front of us while we try to out-register each other. (Rob added a 120-square-foot tent from Anthropologie and is therefore winning our random-crap-that-no-one-will-ever-buy-us contest).
2012 may not be flush with hover boards and time travel (sorry, Mr. McFly), but the fact that shopping technology exists is enough for me.
