DLA Piper’s Anthony Ashton honored for commitment to community service

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that partner Anthony Ashton was selected by Community Law in Action (CLIA) as a recipient of its Inspiring Voices 2016 award. Ashton was recognized for his dedication to community service efforts that support the city of Baltimore and its residents.

Eight honorees were recognized at CLIA's second annual Inspiring Voices luncheon on May 10, 2016, at the University of Maryland SMC Campus Center in Baltimore. As an organization dedicated to cultivating leadership skills of area youth and encouraging them to actively participate in driving positive change in their communities, CLIA focused the event on celebrating youth-led community change in the city of Baltimore.

Ashton heads DLA Piper's Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the firm's Baltimore offices and previously served as the chair of the firm's African American/Black Affinity group. He is active in several civic and charitable organizations, including serving on the board of directors of the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, which provides free and low-cost legal representation to community-based nonprofits and individuals with limited incomes. Ashton also previously served as chairman of the board of directors of St. Frances Academy, the oldest Catholic school in the United States dedicated to the education of African Americans.

Ashton received his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, and his B.A. from Howard University.
