Award-Winning CEO Joins MICA to Advance Creative Entrepreneurship

Monyka Berrocosa will boost MICA's commitment to fostering creativity through business

As part of its plan to channel the ideas, interests and talents of its creative students and recent graduates toward entrepreneurial pursuits, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) announced that it has hired award-winning business owner and serial entrepreneur Monyka Berrocosa. Berrocosa will help steer the new college-wide entrepreneurship initiative, Up/Start MICA.

Acting as Up/Start's "Entrepreneurship Evangelist," Berrocosa will manage events, cultivate resources and provide expert business guidance and advice to students and alumni.

The Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation recently awarded MICA a three-year, $600,000 grant. The funds are being used to kick-start the development of Up/Start MICA, a program that will provide guidance, support, tools and resources to students and alumni who are looking to grow small businesses or launch start-ups with a social mission.

Hiring Berrocosa further strengthens MICA's position as one of the most innovative art and design colleges in the United States, says MICA President Samuel Hoi.

"We are so excited to have Ms. Berrocosa join MICA and help creative students thrive in entrepreneurial endeavors and business ownership," says Hoi. "Monyka is a very successful business person with a passion for guiding entrepreneurs from start-up to succession. Her leadership is already helping to make Up/Start a success."
