As the capacity crowd rises to its feet, Baltimore Orioles batter Cal Ripken Jr. acknowledges a standing ovation after slapping his 2,000th career base hit off White Sox starter Wilson Alvarez in the second inning. Only former Orioles Eddie Murray and Brooks Robinson have reached such a milestone with the club.
