Peter Angelos has accused Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake of exploiting the memory of William Donald Schaefer to promote the State Center redevelopment, a project he considers to be a hugely wasteful plum for politically connected developers.
The really shocking part: He does all that in a letter to the editor.
I reported last September that the O's owner and Gov. Martin O'Malley appeared to be on the outs over the project, with Angelos canceling a $1,000-a-head fundraiser at his Camden Yards skybox.
But that battle was behind the scenes. A letter to the editor is something else entirely.
When was the last time Angelos wrote one?
I've put in a call to Angelos to ask. Until I hear back, I'll have to rely on a search of The Sun's archives. It turns up just one since 1990.
It ran Aug. 10, 2001, in the aftermath of the train tunnel fire in downtown Baltimore. In that letter, Angelos praised firefighters for their heroic efforts. He also had kind words for -- wait for it -- then-Mayor O'Malley and then-Police Commissioner Ed Norris.
