Sun archives: John Mackey
John Mackey played tight end for the Baltimore Colts from 1963-1971 and was a member of the championship team from Super Bowl V. During his time in Baltimore, Mackey revolutionized the tight end position and became one of Johnny Unitas' favorite passing targets. Mackey finished his career with 331 receptions for 5,236 yards and 38 touchdowns. He was a three-time NFL All-Pro selection and made five Pro-Bowls. Mackey was voted into the the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992, becoming the second pure tight end to enter the hall. (Baltimore Sun / August 28, 2003)
