I never put much stock in pro athletes who credit divine intervention for winning games, but Tim Tebow's playoff performance Sunday and the coincidences surrounding the Bible verse John 3:16 are downright eerie.
The verse -- "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" -- has been touted in sports before. For years, signs reading "John 3:16" have been displayed for TV cameras by a fan at high-profile games. Tebow, the Denver Broncos quarterback and a devout Christian, used to write that verse onto the eye-black that players apply to cut down on glare. The National Football League doesn't allow that sort of personal statement, but Tebow, who has fueled many miraculous comebacks this year, remains linked to the verse.
