Fee-driven Spirit Airlines to come to BWI

Update: Spirit Airlines announced it would start twice daily nonstop flights from Baltimore to Fort Lauderdale and daily nonstop service to Dallas-Fort Worth beginning on Sept. 6.

Spirit's release said to check out its "insanely low fares." But Baltimore passengers might also want to check out the airline's fees.

The airline charges $45 for a single carry-on a bag, if you're purchasing this basic perk at the gate instead of in advance.  Beginning Nov. 6th, it will start charging $100. Now that's insane.

Last night, Condor Airlines began its new service from Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood MarshallAirport to Frankfurt, Germany,

The schedule is "seasonal," and will run twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays.

This is handy because many longer destinations in Europe require connections in Frankfurt.

But apparently this isn’t the only news out of BWI.

The airport said it plans to announced a new domestic airline at BWI later this morning. Stay tuned.
