Cheap Halloween Contest winners announced

Even though Consuming Interests blogger Liz Kay may have said goodbye to The Baltimore Sun, she's back as guest judge of the Cheap Halloween Costume Contest. Here's what she had to say about this year's entries. Our main winner will get the Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy, and our honorable mention will get a copy of Fast Five (the latest in the Fast and Furious franchise). Winners, stand by -- we'll be contacting you today on how to collect your prizes.

We got some super impressive entries in Consuming Interests' first-ever Cheap Halloween Costume contest. (I want to know whether Monopoly's Mr. Moneybags carried that life-size car token around with him all night!)

Two costumes really blew me away in both their low cost as well as what I would call "recognition factor" -- the ability for others to quickly understand what the person was dressed as. That's why lisawise's "Mail Order Bride" -- complete with a bubble-wrap veil from the office supply closet and the borrowed garter -- won an honorable mention.

But the "Spy Vs. Spy" submitted by Ambyr Hodges was really very well executed. And! With only $5 spent on average per costume for some thrift-store clothes, you'd have saved enough to justify buying more candy for trick-or-treaters (or picking some more up today at a post-Halloween sale).

Thanks to everyone who entered and congratulations to the winners!
