The Sofa Store and The Big Screen Store will combine under one roof in a new location being built in Glen Burnie.
The owners are building a 32,000-square-foot, free-standing store on about three acres they bought for $2.5 million in Cromwell Business Park on Cromwell Park Drive, said St. John Properties Inc., which sold the site in the center near Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
Owners Kevin and Cary Luskin started The Big Screen Store chain in 1996, and it's grown to 11 locations in Maryland and Virginia. The Sofa Store opened in 2012 in Towson, where the owners combined the concepts into a single store last spring.
UPDATE: "We are thrilled to be expanding locations for The Sofa Store," Kevin Luskin said in a statement. "Since its opening in 2012 we have received tremendous feedback...Last spring we combined our Towson Big Screen Store with The Sofa Store, and it turned out to be quite a successful concept proven by steady increases in sales for both stores."
The retailer broke ground last week on the Glen Burnie store and expects to open in the fall.
The Big Screen Store sells home theater and Bose home systems, wood credenzas, televisions and sound systems, while the Sofa Store carries living room and accent furniture and accessories.
The new store will allow the retailers to combine the concepts in a high-profile location with access to the Baltimore, Columbia and Annapolis markets, said Jerry Wit, senior vice president of marketing for St. John Properties.
