People have wristbands to declare their affiliation and support of different groups or causes -- think "Livestrong", the yellow wristband campaign by cyclist Lance Armstrong that raises cancer awareness.

But if you wear a new wristband designed by Baltimore's MissionTix, what affiliation are you declaring? I'll tell you: Your right to par-tay in da' club.

The new wristband is a wearable and re-usable "ticket" for concerts that you want to attend. Users can just buy new tickets and their wristband gets "re-charged." The first Baltimore venues that will support the wristbands are the Recher Theater (actually in Towson) and the Ottobar.[Here's more on the wristband.]

Wearers of the wristband have it scanned at the venue. Inside the wristband is an embedded NFC (near-field communication) chip that can store tickets to multiple events. NFC technology is the new rage -- you'll be seeing it more and more in mobile phones, for instance, as companies try to get you to make payments by simply waving your phone across a digital reader device.

“Our wristband is now an option for small- and medium-size events and venues, whereas previously, only festivals and larger events and venues had considered this as a viable ticket solution," said Joe Loverde, owner of MissionTix. "And even in those instances, they have been using wristbands that are typically cut-off and thrown away.”

MissionTix has been pushing the tech envelope with event-ticketing for several years. Two years ago, it introduced mobile ticketing, in conjunction with Barcoding Inc. So concert-goers could use their smartphones instead of printed tickets at venues.
