The Baltimore Sun's sports department is looking for reporting and copy desk interns for the summer of 2013. Internships are unpaid and require students to receive academic credit.
Our reporting interns write about college and high school sports, minor league baseball, professional lacrosse and outdoors and recreation, in addition to contributing to our coverage of the Preakness, Baltimore Ravens training camp and the Baltimore Orioles. Reporting interns have the opportunity to write features, notebooks, game stories, blog posts and more. Reporting interns work with assigning editors on story development for print and online. Applicants should email a resume, 5-to-6 published clips and a list of references to Matt Bracken, deputy sports editor, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our copy editing interns work alongside the sports slot editor and edit stories for clarity, coherence, logic, factual accuracy, fairness, style, usage, grammar and spelling. They trim stories to fit the news hole, write headlines and captions, compile roundups from wire services, e-mails and phone calls, put together box scores and agate packages and check page proofs for mistakes. Copy editing interns also have writing opportunities, and typically leave The Sun with 5-to-10 published clips. Applicants should email a resume, 3-to-4 clips and a list of references to Andy Knobel, deputy sports editor, at email@example.com.
