A woman commutes on a Segway personal transporter in Beijing on Tuesday. The US special envoy for climate change has met with top Chinese officials, both sides said, in an effort to convince Beijing to commit to greenhouse gas emissions cuts, but China has stood firm in its position that the bulk of the responsibility for emissions cuts lies with developed nations, while not clearly ruling out making some cuts of its own. Some three million cars crowd Beijing roads, with the number increasing everyday, and the Chinese capital has continued with an auto ban to cut car emissions orginally put in place ahead of the 2008 Summer Olympics.
