Albanian bunkers

A recent picture shows a decrepit bunker lying in the midst of garbage in front of new buildings erected in recent years, in the suburbs of Tirana, Albania. Albania is set to formally join <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORGOV000049" title="NATO" href="/topic/unrest-conflicts-war/defense/nato-ORGOV000049.topic">NATO</a> later this week. The bunker shells are remains from a military defense line created in the Albanian communist era. Late dictator <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PEHST000967" title="Enver Hoxha" href="/topic/arts-culture/enver-hoxha-PEHST000967.topic">Enver Hoxha</a> built more than half a million bunkers to protect the country from an invasion that never came.
