Funeral arrangements announced for lawmaker Ted Sophocleus

Funeral arrangements have been announced for veteran lawmaker Ted Sophocleus of Linthicum, who died June 8.

The former county councilman and state delegate was 79.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on June 13 and from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on June 14 at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services in Glen Burnie, the funeral home said on its website. A Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Singleton’s location at 1 2nd Ave. SW.

Sophocleus’ body will be at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Baltimore Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and his funeral will begin at 11 a.m. The cathedral is at 24 W. Preston Street.

He will be interred at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Woodlawn.

Donations can be made to Opportunity Builders Inc. of Millersville in Sophocleus’ memory.

Sophocleus died Friday while hospitalized in Baltimore.

Through a family spokesman, his wife Alice Sophocleus said he told her if anything happened during neck surgery not to feel bad — he had a good life and thanked her for being by his side for 54 years.

“Don't be upset, I've had a good life and we've had a good life,” she recalled him saying.

Gov. Larry Hogan expressed his condolences Friday on Twitter.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Delegate Ted Sophocleus, who served the people of Anne Arundel County for over three decades in various positions,” he wrote. “Our prayers go to his family, his loved ones, and the members of General Assembly.”
