Jenn Karlman

Jenn Karlman

Jenn Karlman calls San Diego home and is excited to be back after more than ten years.

Jenn joined FOX-5 News as a field reporter for a year and a half before helping launch the FOX 5 News at Five with Loren Nancarrow. She is thrilled to be working in a great news environment and humbled to deliver the news on a nightly basis

Jenn is a Rancho Bernardo High School alum and has, since she was a little girl, known she’s wanted to be in television news.

Jenn interned at FOX-5 back when the station was then the WB affiliate, and then she moved on to work part time on the assignment desk at KOLD-TV in Tucson, Arizona.  Upon graduating college with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Arizona, Jenn became the main anchor at the CBS station in Kennewick, Washington. After two years of anchoring, reporting, producing and shooting her own stories, she moved to WBAY-TV, Green Bay, Wisconsin where she anchored a weekend morning show, which she considers one of her best jobs. While anchoring and reporting, she earned several awards for her reporting from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and from the Associated Press.

Missing the sunshine and perfect weather of Southern California, Jenn headed back to Southern California.  She solidified her business reporting skills while freelancing for a venture capital firm out of Orange County and working on other corporate projects, including launching a corporate airline magazine. Jenn also loves to cook and earned a spot on The Food Network in 2010, when she appeared on the season premiere of Season 3 “Grill It” with Bobby Flay.

Throughout her career, Jenn has covered a wide range of stories from devastating natural disasters to the extensive criminal court trials. Her favorite part of her job is telling someone’s story.

Jenn feels strongly about giving back to the community and often volunteers as a mentor for middle and high school kids. She is set to get married in July 2012 to a Navy pilot and has two amazing step-daughters.

You will find Jenn doing yoga, hanging near the beach, cooking and laughing. She is a big football fan and cheers for the Chargers, though at heart, she is a “cheesehead” and cheers for the Green Bay Packers.

What's on your iPod?

Definitely lots of Country music… From Sugarland to old George Strait…Yeehaw.

Which professional sport would you play and why?

I think I would want to be an Olympic gymnast. I am always amazed at their level of athleticism, plus I wouldn’t mind having six-pack abs.

If you were not in TV news, what profession would you choose?

Without a doubt, I would be a singer. I remember trying out to be Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ, thinking for sure I had a chance… let’s just say; Simon Cowell would boot me for sure.

What's something that no one knows about you?

I really enjoy fly fishing. My fiancé took me to Yellowstone a few years ago and I was “hooked.” In fact, he proposed while fishing in Yosemite. He attached the ring to a retractable lanyard on a new fly vest he bought me. It was perfect. I have yet to actually catch a fish! Lol

Dinner for 5, who would you invite? (Dead or alive)
Dan my fiancé –because he’s just fun to hang out with

Aaron Rodger-GB Packers Quarterback (Huge fan)

John Adams—He was such a pivotal person in the development of this country and I would want to just ask him a ton of questions.

Will Farrell-- “I’m Ron Burgandy??”

Tom Brokaw—I loved watching him as I developed my journalism career.
