Dr. Joshua J. Jacobs, chairman of orthpedic surgery at Rush University Medical Center, has been elected second vice president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Jacobs specializes in adult reconstructive orthopedic surgery, particularly joint replacement and research in biomaterials. Besides heading the orthopedic department at Rush, Jacobs is a partner and member of the Executive Committee of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (a private practice) and an adjunct professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University. For the last six years, he was chairman of the Council on Research, Quality Assessment and Technology. He also is past president of the Orthopaedic Research Society and is the current president of the United States Bone and Joint Decade.
