Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for a digital subscription? You can go to baltimoresun.com/digital

What is a digital subscription and why should I get one? A digital subscription gives you unlimited access to all the content of baltimoresun.com with no restrictions or limits. The website features much of the content from the print edition of The Baltimore Sun as well as digital-only features including:

•Breaking news

•Story updates throughout the day

•Blogs

•Photo galleries

•Video

•Share tools – the ability to email and post a story to social media websites

What will a digital subscription cost? A subscription to baltimoresun.com costs about 35 cents a day -- the standard rate is $2.49 a week or $49.99 for 26 weeks. Baltimore Sun print subscribers receive a significant discount -- 75 cents a week or $29.99 a year. For a limited time, we’re offering an introductory rate of 99 cents for the first 4 weeks.

Will it make more sense to subscribe to the paper in order to get the digital discount? For many people, it does. Purchasing a home delivery subscription to The Baltimore Sun gives you the best value. It gives you full digital access at a discounted price, in addition to the Baltimore area’s most complete news and information package, special sections, money-saving coupons and other retail advertisements, comics, the New York Times crossword and Parade magazine.

What if I don't want to subscribe — will I still be able to read baltimoresun.com for free? Visitors get 15 free page views every 30 days on baltimoresun.com.  Some content remains available with no limit, including:

•Home page

•Section fronts such as News, Sports, Entertainment

•Classified ads such as Jobs, Cars, Homes, Apartments

•Sun Rewards

•FindLocal, the events and venues database

•Sun Insider

•Sun Rewards

Upon reaching your reading limit, you'll be asked to subscribe.

How do I sign in to my account once I’ve subscribed? You are automatically signed in as soon as you subscribe, there’s no need to do anything else to be signed in on that computer. However, if you subscribed at home and you later want to access your account from work, for instance, just go to www.baltimoresun.com/digital and click “Sign in” and then click “Sign In” again in the popup window.

Why wouldn’t I just go to another local news site to get my news? With more than 100,000 articles, photos, videos and blogs, baltimoresun.com has far more original reporting and news than any other local site. The Sun’s news staff is by far the largest in the area, resulting in coverage you can’t get anywhere else. If you want the whole story – and you want it first -- you need baltimoresun.com.

Will I still be able to access baltimoresun.com articles through Facebook, Twitter, search engines or my blog? Yes. We encourage links from Facebook, Twitter, search engines, blogs and social media. When you visit baltimoresun.com through a link from one of these channels, that article (or blog post, etc.) counts toward your monthly limit of 15 free pages.

I get email newsletters from baltimoresun.com. Will they be impacted? No. Your email newsletters deliver as usual and only if you click through to baltimoresun.com will the page limit begin to apply.

If I have a computer at home and a computer at my office, will I need to purchase two digital subscriptions? No. You can log in using your digital account username and password from wherever you access the Internet.

How will digital subscriptions be billed? We accept major credit cards. Subscriptions are billed every four weeks. Your subscription renews automatically, and you are charged in advance of each billing cycle unless you cancel. For more information on digital subscription accounts, please go to the Account Management FAQ below this general FAQ.

What will the cancellation and refund policy be? You will be able to cancel your subscription at any time. When you cancel, we will stop charging your account the following billing cycle. Each billing cycle is four weeks, so your unlimited access will continue for the remainder of the current four-week period. Afterward, you will still be able to view 15 pages a month on baltimoresun.com at no charge, just like any other visitor.
