Community Programs
Donated Ad SpaceAs the area's leading news and information medium, The Sun has a unique opportunity to assist nonprofits through the donation of in-paper and online advertising space. These donations are often part of an event sponsorship by The Sun.
Charitable event sponsorships: The Baltimore Sun is an active media sponsor of many worthwhile charitable events in Central Maryland, sponsoring about 75 community events each year. In return for donated ad space, the event/charity will typically:
- Designate The Baltimore Sun as the exclusive
daily newspaper media sponsor.
- Provide camera-ready ad artwork in the agreed-upon size.
- Ensure that our logo appears on all appropriate promotional
materials (posters, signage, billboards, event program ads, other
media ads, etc.).
- Give us the option to display signage at the event.
- Provide tickets to the event.
The Baltimore Sun's agreement to sponsor an event or program does not guarantee news coverage, however. We encourage producers and promoters to work directly with the newsroom to arrange coverage of their events.
The Baltimore Sun makes every effort to place ads in requested sections, but because of the nature of breaking news and other unpredictable space demands, placement cannot be guaranteed. Occasionally, promotion ads are moved from one section to another. If a sponsorship ad is bumped out of the newspaper completely, we will make arrangements to run the ad as soon as possible in a future issue. All parties should approve copy and layouts of sponsorship ads.
Media sponsorship requests must be made in writing and should include a description of your organization, including history, purpose and programs. Proposals for media sponsorship should be made a minimum of one month prior to when the first ad needs to appear in The Sun. Send your request to:
